19 of Medvedev's 21 championships have been won on hard surfaces

A comeback the Russian player secured his initial title for over two years with a win over opponent Moutet in the tournament championship match.

Medvedev, a ex- top-ranked player, has had a challenging season, achieving just one match at the Grand Slams and experiencing a difficult moment at the US Open.

The player's unpredictability on the ATP Tour - and difficulties with his serving in specific - led to him falling of the elite rankings and eventually parting ways with long-time trainer Gilles Cervara.

Presently collaborating with Johansson and his other coach, he has gradually advanced in the recent weeks - climaxing in a closely contested three-set triumph over Frenchman Corentin Moutet.

This marks the player's initial trophy following the 2023 Rome Masters and maiden on a hard court since spring of 2023.

The win also means the Russian has secured twenty-one victories at twenty-one distinct events.

"For the first time I'm at a event with my two daughters together, so to secure a title is particularly special," said world number 14 the champion.

"This championship is in honour of my younger daughter Victoria, because the first title I got when my child her name was born was for her."

Medvedev, the past champion, had lost his last six championship matches, including in the German tournament earlier this year.

Medvedev's retrieving strategy and regular outbursts on court had caused commentators to doubt if his capacity to play at the elite level was finished.

But the player has made changes in the last few weeks, making an effort to advance forward and play positively, backed up by an enhanced service.

Medvedev recovered from a break down in the initial set against the difficult Moutet, winning 4 of the final five exchanges to take the lead.

The pair swapped breaks in the following set before the Frenchman, attempting for his maiden ATP Tour victory, seized the initiative to create a final set.

Moutet defended 4 initial break points in a competitive third set before Medvedev broke to that score to secure the win.

Appropriately, the winner earned the win with a rally at the net, with Moutet incapable to handle a shot after two hours and 38 minutes.
